Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy “Empire” — what’s the design lineage?
The Empire silhouette is a chandelier shape that emerged in late-18th and early-19th century French interiors during the First Empire period. The signature is the inverted-pyramid form: a small ring at the top widens through stacked tiers of crystal or glass, then tapers back to a pointed drop at the bottom. It became one of the defining shapes of European chandelier design and remains widely used today across traditional, transitional, and contemporary interiors. The Smoke Gray version pulls the form toward modern through its muted color and clean polyhedron facets.
Where does it look best?
Dining rooms with rectangular or round tables seating 4–6, mid-size foyers with 9–10 ft ceilings, mid-landing of staircases, and hospitality lobbies. The smoke gray reads sophisticated rather than dramatic, working well against neutral palettes (white, cream, taupe, light gray) as well as against richer interiors (charcoal walls, dark wood, deep marble). At ∅ 31.5″, this is a focal piece for rooms 12–16 ft across — for larger spaces consider a wider Empire fixture from the Prism Series.
What bulbs work best?
Candle-form LED bulbs (E12 or E14, depending on the unit shipped), max 15W each, 2700K warm white. Clear bulbs are preferred — the warm filament shows through the smoke gray glass and lifts the gray tones with amber depth. Avoid cool-white (4000K+) bulbs — they flatten the gray glass and remove the warmth from the brass frame. LED keeps heat low. Bulbs not included.
Is it dimmable?
Yes — when paired with dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible Triac or trailing-edge dimmer (sold separately). Dimming brings out warmer amber tones in the smoke gray glass and is recommended for dining and lounge installations.
Is the Smoke Gray Empire certified for North America?
Yes. It holds certifications compatible with North America, Saudi Arabia, Europe, and Australia and operates on AC 110–240V worldwide.
